Clarion is a Chrome extension and teacher dashboard used on school-managed Chrome devices. This policy explains what Clarion accesses, how that information is used, and what choices students and schools have.
What Clarion Collects
Paste activity. When a student pastes content into a Google Doc, Clarion records what was pasted, the document it was pasted into, and the time of the paste. Teachers can review this in the Clarion dashboard.
Document content. With access granted through Google's OAuth consent screen, Clarion can capture the content of a student's Google Doc so a teacher can review how the document changed over time.
Clarion does not collect data beyond what is described in this policy.
Consent and Visibility
The Clarion extension is visible on a student's device once installed. Document access is not granted silently. It requires the student to approve access through Google's consent screen.
How Information Is Used
Paste activity and document captures are made available to the student's teacher through the Clarion dashboard. The goal is to give teachers more context for reviewing student writing and talking with students.
Data Retention and Access
Data collected through Clarion is accessible to the student's teacher and school administrators for the purposes described in this policy. Schools using Clarion are responsible for their own retention practices in line with applicable school policy.
